Final App
1st screen: A train and uptown/downtown selector. When you have made a selection in both sections are, the search button will saturate with color, indicating you are ready to perform a search.
2nd screen: A list view of nearest train station of train(s) selected. Will give you an estimate of next train arrival time at station and walking time based on your position relative to the station. There is a refine search button if you need another train. There is a see map version under each set of directions which leads to screen3.
3rd screen: A map view with legend. Shows your location relative to station and train. There would be zoom in/out capability if you want to see where the next train is and when it would arrive. The train icon would blink if there is a delay or other problem with the train. There is also a list view button which would return you to the 2nd screen.
4th screen: A QR code scanner on your metrocard allows you to read your metrocard’s current amount of money without needing a subway card scanner.

Redesigned Table from Microsoft Word
I decided to change the up and down arrow key on the table because from personal experience I have trouble clicking the correct one, especially if I am rapidly clicking. I also changed the color to blue of the font to separate it from the other fonts so you know which container you are working in. I changed the buttons to a more rounded for that have a clear edge to help with understand they are indeed buttons.
Analysis of Interactive App
The interactive app I selected to analyze is Google translate, google translate is a fantastic app that allows you to translate any text into any language you desire and also take a photo of text and have it translate into the desired language which comes in handy while traveling abroad or reading a menu in another language.
The map opens up to a large screen separated into two distinct areas, one area to post the text you want translated and the other area is where the translated text appears and another area pops up under the translated text telling you the pronoun/adjective/subjunctive and other forms of the text.
Located at the upper area we find 4 smaller boxes on a menu bar where we select the desired language, current language, switch key that switches the languages back and forth and a menu drop down button. The button is small and discreet so may be hard to find if you do not have a keen eye. The app also allows writing instead of type text to be translated and use your voice to say a word or sentence and have it translate whatever you say. This function does not always work because of the app sometimes has trouble understanding what you are trying to have translated.
The main issue I had with this app was it only worked when you had an internet connection but google now offers you a download package that downloads all the data for specific languages so you can use the app when ever you need, whether or not if you have cell phone service or an internet connection.

TYPOGRAPHY IN PUBLIC SPACE
The sign and font used for the dollar store on essex are just very unappealing. They are way off balance and seem to be printed on garbage bag plastic strips. The size are way off and contrast they were going for just does not work. They building it is posted on is a modern building with very high renter and the renters have complained about ugly look of the sign and how it diminishes the aesthetics of the building.
The Manhattan Unisex salon sign is very old and shabby. It looks like it is about to fall off the wall and is off balance with the red brick of the building. yes the bricks are red but this sign is a faded pink cheap fabric that uses the contrast red and white but falls short to grab anyone's attentions past thinking no thanks. I gives off a cheap and unfashionable vibe, two things you are not looking for when searching for a salon.
The Signs and fonts used for the old EL SOMBRERO sign are all over the place and fading. The use three or four different types of fonts and sizes with no balance or clarity. The emotions it raises are old, dirty, unorganized and randomness all things you do no want to feel when choosing a place to dine. It seems as if they added signs over time and never took down the old one, the negative space does not balance any positive space because they just left sign up in the negative space. It just comes off as gaudy, cheap and unappealing.
The sign for this generic cell phone store is exactly that generic. Except it's also off balance and gives off a creepy vibe like you are about to be robbed or taken advantage of. These are all feeling you do not want your customers to have while viewing your sign which represents your business. The use three different types of font, different sizes and different boldness which makes people feel unbalanced and not at ease when viewing the sign which is probably a good thing since they will most likely rip you off anyway.
Some would argue this sign serves its purpose and is very balanced. I would argue though for a laundry mat to have a filthy cloth sign that looks like it is made from left over socks is a bad thing. They should honest just tear it done because it looks like it is about to fall over and it gives me an anxious feeling because of all of the text crammed in to such a small area.
